Waiting for Inspiration…

blank canvas

“You can’t wait for inspiration.  You have to go after it with a club.”

Jack London

Ever feel that way when you sit down to create?  Usually I have more ideas swirling around my head than I know what to do with, but once in awhile it comes time to complete a project, which means I must START the project, and I just sit there stumped.  I have to surround myself with a low stress, creativity inducing environment for a bit until the juices begin to flow again!

What inspires your creativity?

Gratitude Greats of the Week

What a great exercise this has been for me!  While I am grateful for many things, I am not always terribly mindful of those things, and representing them in a photo is sometimes challenging!  It is helping me SEE the world around me with different eyes.  I am more eager to document with the camera what might have been overlooked as inconsequential, or trivial.

So, here is the random assortment of photos that made this week’s Gratitude Greats:

I am a terrible gardener, and at this point don’t have a garden.  But my daughter and her husband do, and have been bringing me some of their excess.  It seems so luxuries to actually have all this wonderful fresh produce in that vegetable drawer in the refrigerator.

paint box

Similarly, I so appreciate having all kinds of paints at my disposal.  Paint isn’t cheap, and I feel it an honor and privilege, and maybe even a responsibility, to be able to reach into my little suitcase and pull out such a variety of colors.

On the topic of abundance, we have had abundant rainfall lately.  Our road has turned into a river, complete with little mini waterfalls. But after two years of drought conditions in our area, I am not going to complain.  The fields (where they aren’t under water) and trees have turned a lush green.

art table

I am one of those people who love something worn and used more than something new.  I found this table at a garage sale, and was thrilled to acquire it!  It had belonged to an artist, and now is my own travel art table.  I love to thing about the masterpieces it has supported, and the stories it could tell!  I love the feeling of connection as my paint mess joins those that have gone before.

pink sunset

Okay, I know I include either a sunrise or sunset nearly every week.  But each is so different and so appreciated that I hate to leave them off the list.  This one was a gorgeous hue of pink that I could never replicate on the palette, lasting for about 30 seconds as the sun dropped right down onto our beloved little town!

What made your list this week?

“To be creative means to be in love with life.

You can be creative only if you love live enough that you want to enhance its beauty.

You want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.”

This is one of the quotes that made it into my art journal this week! What is one of your favorites?
