“Windswept” in Kansas Magazine

I was so pleased when I heard that Hutchinson was included in an article in the Summer 2016 issue of Kansas magazine as one of the “Kansas communities leading the charge in promoting local creativity and culture.” The other communities were Lawrence, Dodge City and Topeka.  Makes me rather proud of our little city.  Of course, as the article acknowledged, a large part of the credit goes to Jennifer Randall and her efforts in instituting Third Thursday, now in it’s eighth year.

The other part of the credit goes, of course, to the people of the community, without which Third Thursday would not survive.  I have been pleased with the willingness of Hutchinson to embrace and encourage the arts.

And, of course it was pretty fun to turn to the page about Hutchinson and find my “Windswept”  sunflower, as well as my artist trading card make and take table being enjoyed by some young art enthusiasts.

And if you are anywhere near Hutchinson, Kansas, be sure and attend next week’s Third Thursday (June 16) for their extra special art extravaganza with all kinds of fun participatory art projects being planned!

Paint and Switch at Artlandia

Last night I participated in a Paint and Switch hosted by Artlandia in Hutchinson. Six artists rotated around 5 canvases which we completed in just over 3 hours!  It was challenging and fun.

As you can imagine, each piece went through multiple transformations before arriving at completion.

Pretty fun to see the influence of everyone’s style!

Artist Trading Card Workshop

I love artist trading card (ATC) workshops!  This is the first workshop that I have held at Artlandia, a relatively new gallery in Hutchinson.  With my art hanging all around us, we spent a few fun hours creating a half deck of artist trading cards.

Even just part way done, the cards are looking great!

We even did a little swapping of our own!

Happy arting!

This is the opening week of my show at Artlandia in Hutchinson, Kansas.  It is a fairly new gallery, with a nice large space that makes my “large” pieces look rather small!  It is owned by Jennifer Randall, an active promoter of all things artistic, and instrumental in bringing Third Thursday to downtown.  During February’s Third Thursday, the 18th, will be the artist reception for the show.

I have 27 original pieces hanging on the walls as of this week, and it was fun to see all these pieces hanging out together!

And, I must give a big thanks to my husband for patiently helping me haul my art to the gallery, arrange, rearrange, and finally hang  it!  What a guy!

Area Workshops Coming Up!

I have a whole rush of workshops coming up in the Hutchinson area and I am really looking forward to them!

First up, on Jan. 30 from 1 to 4pm at the Hutchinson Art Center is Stamp Carving. This is great for the beginner, or the experienced.

We will be looking at all kinds of different materials and easy options to create our own stamps.  Cost is $35, and all materials are provided.  If you already have a carving knife, bring it, if not, don’t worry, I have you covered!

Next up, on Feb. 4, will be printmaking, also at the art center.

We will look at not only using the gelli plate, but other inexpensive options as well.  We will talk about (and try out!) tools to use, and how to use the beautiful prints we end up with!

Then I will switch venues for the Feb. 6 artist trading card workshop at Artlandia.  These make wonderful little Valentines…

I will also be hanging my art in the lovely gallery space at Artlandia for the month of February!

On Third Thursday, during the artist reception, I will also have a come and go activity table to make cards.  Be watching for my cards to turn up in random places in the Hutchinson area!

Hutchinson Magazine

The Hutchinson News puts out a lovely little magazine called simply Hutchinson Magazine.  In it are features of local interest, both individuals and businesses.  I love discovering how many amazing things go on right here in my area!

In this Winter 2015 issue is an article on Artlandia, a new gallery space in Hutchinson. More than a gallery, it has office space for creative businesses, studios for artists, and a meeting place for all kinds of creative activities. Owner Jennifer Randall refers to it as a “makerspace”.

I am looking forward to having my artwork hang in the gallery again in February 2016.  I will also have some sort of interactive workshop where people can just have fun getting together to create.

A copy of Hutchinson Magazine can be picked up at the Hutchinson News office for a very reasonable $4 or, it can be viewed for free online! It’s a great way to keep up with what is happening in Hutchinson!

I love sunflowers, and their representation of my home state of Kansas.  This mixed media is a bit of a departure from my normal style, as most of what I work on while camping turns out to be.

My outdoor “studio” while camping was where the majority of the work was done. Just needed a little touching up once back home.
