How Now Brown Cow?

How Now Brown Cow wm.jpg

The latest in my Home on the Range series celebrating Kansas.  Of course it has to be titled “How Now Brown Cow”!  This particular piece is a tribute to the Kansas farm.

On a 12 x 12 stretched canvas with 1 1/2 inch deep sides. Created with Citra Solv altered National Geographic pages and acrylic paint.

Who Me?

“Who Me? seems to be the expression on this chickadee collage made entirely from Citra Solv papers as an example for a two part Citra Solv workshop at Dillon Nature Center the last couple of weeks.

First the class made Citra Solv altered papers, then used them to create a bird collage of their own. I think they all did a fabulous job… we had roosters, sparrows, owls, robins, cardinals, and crows!  Quite a flock of artwork!

“Foxy Mama”

“Foxy Mama”
Once in awhile I catch a glimpse of a fox darting across our country road, or peering out from a row of weeds.  I always feel privileged to spot one, though if I was raising chickens I might feel differently!
“Foxy Mama” is a mixed media collage and paint piece on 18 x 24 cradled wood.  I used Citra Solv to create the background.  The sewing pattern tissue on the ground as well as text in the plant life show the touch of humans even in the wild.  More collage papers show up in the mama and little one.
This piece is currently available in my etsy shop.

Pachyderm in the Posies

“Pachyderm in the Posies” is a mixed media Citra Solv collage and paint on an 18 x 24 cradled wood panel.  I had fun doodling details into the flowers with both paint pens and pen and ink.

This piece is currently at Tessera Fine Art Gallery in Wichita, hanging with several other animal friends!

Citra Solv Workshop at Dillon Nature Center

If you have followed me for any length of time at all, you know that one of my all time favorite mediums/techniques is using Citra Solv concentrated cleaner to alter National Geographic pages in order to make stunningly beautiful pages which I then use in my artwork.

I simply use them as collage papers…

…or as an interesting background on which to build a piece.

I find the interesting patterns and effects accomplished with a variety of techniques irresistible.

It can even be used to do image transfer!

So when I have the opportunity to share the methods that I have developed with others, the familiar thrill in the process comes over me all over again!

I will have the opportunity to teach this class as a two part workshop at Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson, Kansas on January 31 and February 7 from 6:00 to 8:30pm.  If interested in learning my techniques to using this fascinating medium, call Dillon Nature Center at (620) 663-3047 to register.

In the meantime, happy creating!
